Board of Directors of Fair Insurance Rates in Monroe (FIRM)

Ms. Heather Carruthers is on the Board of Directors of Fair Insurance Rates in Monroe (FIRM), the grassroots consumer action organization from the Florida Keys that effectively demonstrated that rates in Monroe County were excessive. She is on the Media and Strategy Committees of FIRM, and had the honor of representing the group before Governor Bush and the cabinet in April 2006. She has played an integral role in the communities of Monroe County by serving as the spokesperson for FIRM, is a forthright citizen and strong advocate for Florida’s insurance policyholders.

Ms. Carruthers is on the board of Sculpture Key West and is the Immediate Past Chair of the Lodging Association of the Florida Keys and Key West. She is a member of the Key West Chamber of Commerce, was the president of the Key West Business Guild and is a graduate of Leadership Monroe County (Class XI) and the Key West Ambassador Academy. In her spare time, she sings with the Keys Chorale and a vocal quartet, Swing Low. Her professional background is in direct marketing, advertising and publishing with companies such as Meredith Corporation, Bantam Doubleday Dell and Ogilvy & Mather. Ms. Carruthers is the co-owner of Pearl’s Rainbow, a 38-room guesthouse in Key West.
